In reply to Marcin. A little advice that I didn't write in the article but in France you can take your bike fully mounted only in the TER train or Zou (southern train line). And for the TGV you need a bag. We've had to do the route ourselves when we got back from Nice, choosing each train in order to make it back to Annecy without any problems. But if you choose the TER trains, your fine to travel anywhere in France with your bike!

Thanks Kim for writing all the details – very informative!
And impressive ride!
I am eyeing for some French Alps this year (as I cycled my Swiss passed through and through already) and what worries me are 2 things – bike transport in trains and hotels…I think that for the first year I will book something in one place for a few nights and cycle around to get accustomed to, and your ride will be a big plan for next year.

Save some weight and ditch the GPS. You don’t need it. The track is clearly marked at numbered km intervals. So you’ll always know where you are and how far to go.

Hi Kim,

Sorry I’m not sure if my previous comment posted. If it did, feel free to delete but just wanted to check, were you able to reach Rifugio Carducci without Via Ferratas? How technical was the hike? And do you think if we spent one night at Carducci, we could then hike to Auronzo the next day without Via Ferratas?

Hi Kim, thanks so much for this! Just confirming, you can reach Rifugio Carducci without doing a Via Ferrata right? We won’t have that equipment with us so are hoping to do a 2-night 3 day circuit including Carducci for 1 night. If you could confirm or let me know any suggestions, I’d be so grateful! Thank you 🙂

It took us about 3hours from the parking lot from Moos.

This hike was really cool, I don’t know if you want to also do the via ferrata circuit, but it’s an amazing place!
